The waste accumulation at the Versova beach has been a topic of controversy for a long period. The management of the beach which is supposed to be handled by the BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) hasn’t been met with. The citizens of Mumbai have started taking actions into their own hands and devising a solution to this problem on their own. They joined together to clear the waste at the beach together and have been seeking remedial measures as soon as possible. Ameet Satam noticing this development said, “It was shameful and disappointing to observe that the tax-paying citizens of Mumbai took it on themselves to clean the beach after the problem was being neglected by civic bodies”.
In a recent meeting with the residents of Versova and Bombay High Court lawyer Afroz Shah, the MLA gave his reassurance that a solution will be brought to action in regards to the waste accumulation at the Versova beach. "Ameet Satam himself called us and heard our issues and plans. He assured us that he will take up the issue up with BMC," said Shah. Ameetji also concluded that it was an eye-opener for him after the meet with the VRV (Versova Residents Volunteers) members. He realized that the issue in regards to the dirtiest beach in Mumbai has been left unsettled by the civic bodies.
The daily news and analysis newspaper Mumbai reported on the complaint of the VRV requesting the termination of the existing cleaning contract or issuing of a new one with an additional strict treaty after the members exclaimed that the current contract requirements are woefully inadequate. Ameet Satam recognized the errors of the contract and also shares in the grievances of the citizens, he also approved of the renewal of a new contract requirement and will be discussing it further with the respected corporations. "I have spoken to the deputy municipal commissioner (DMC) for Solid Waste Management, Vijay Balamwar, and discussed the fact that the tender needed to be restructured. The citizens have given some important suggestions, which need to be incorporated," he said.
Known figures like Filmmaker Neerav Ghosh and Actor Naresh Suri are also avid VRV members and have been contributing positively to the movement. They gave their opinions concerning the resolution needed for the Versova beach waste issues to be resolved. They aim to seek more volunteers to join in on taking the initiative further to improve the situation of beaches in Mumbai. "He also agreed to the suggestion of increasing the strength of staff and machinery. We will soon meet the top BMC officials, along with Satam, to take the matter ahead," Naresh Suri added.
With the initiative taken further by Ameet Satam and the combination of efforts from the Versova Residents Volunteers, solutions would be derived in no time for the Versova beach to be cleared off remnant solid waste. Also, for the initiative to be taken across all the beaches in Mumbai.
